Baseball Swept By SCSU, But Still Makes Playoffs

The Bemidji State baseball team was swept by the SCSU Huskies Sunday afternoon, but Bemidji State still made the playoffs which start on Wednesday.

The eight teams participating in the 2013 NSIC / US Bank Baseball Tournament have been announced and St. Cloud State, the NSIC Regular Season Champions, earned the top seed. The Huskies were a predetermined host of the tournament, which will begin on Wednesday, May 8 with games being played on both Dick Putz Field and Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. Games continue through Saturday, May 11.

Joining St. Cloud in the field of eight in the double-elimination tournament are Minnesota State, Augustana, Winona State, Concordia-St. Paul, Wayne State, Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. The Beavers earned the eighth spot in a tie-break over the University of Sioux Falls. Both teams finished with .500 win percentages in the league standings, but BSU defeated top seeded St. Cloud State once this season, while USF was swept by the Huskies.

Bemidji State was swept by SCSU Sunday (5-4 and 6-3), with the Huskies tying the game in the 6th, and scoring the winning run in the 7th. In game two, SCSU scored four int he top of the first.

The winner of the NSIC/US Bank Baseball Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA DII Central Region Tournament. The NSIC, the Great American Conference (GAC) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) make up the NCAA Central Region this year. The top six teams in the region will advance to the NCAA region tournament on May 16-19. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the NSIC and MIAA postseason tournaments, with the remaining four spots are awarded on an at-large basis. The GAC does not have an automatic bid this season. The NCAA DII Selection show is set to air on NCAA.com on Sunday, May 12, at 9 p.m. (CDT).
