It was a case of deja vu Saturday afternoon as the Bemidji State women’s hockey team defeated Robert Morris 3-2 in game two of its series at the RMU Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh. And like Friday, the first two Beaver goals were scored by freshman with the game winner coming from a veteran.
Rookie Kristin Huber scored the first goal of Saturday’s game, while freshman Natasha Kostenko added the second goal of the game to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead before RMU answered back to tie it in the third. Kostenko finished the weekend with 2 goals and an assist.
The game winning goal was tipped in by sophomore Tess Dusik off a line drive from the top of the blue line by senior defender Marlee Wheelhouse. It was Dusik’s 5th goal of the season.
Goaltender Alana McElhinney recorded her 4th win of the season. It was also the Beaver’s third sweep of the season.
The Beavers record of 12-7-2 is the most wins before a new calendar year. Against non-conference opponents, BSU is 6-0-1 this season.
Bemidji State hosts Minnesota State at the Sanford Center Friday, January 6th and Saturday, January 7th. Both games face off at 7:07pm. Join Kelly Schultz for the broadcast beginning with the Budweiser Pregame Show at 6:30pm on The Beaver Radio Network.
