The BSU women’s hockey team pulled out a 4-2 victory over Ohio State this past Saturday night. The Beavers got on the scoreboard early with a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to goals from senior Lauren Williams and sophomore Tess Dusik.
In the second period, the Buckeyes would make it a one goal game. The Beavers’ Emily Erickson would answer back to give them a 3-1 lead going into the third period.
Things got a bit interesting late in the final period of play when Ohio State pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. The Buckeyes would pull within a goal with less than a minute left in the hockey game.
Erickson would put the game away with four seconds left on an empty net goal for the 4-2 win.
With the win, this year’s Beaver senior class just took over the class of 2003 for the most wins in Bemidji State history with their 46th win. The seniors this year are: Montana Vichorek, Zuzana Tomcikova, Marlee Wheelhouse, Alana McElhinney, Lauren Williams and Kimberly Lieder.
Montana Vichorek tied Lisa Peters’ mark for assists by a defender with her 52nd career assist which was on Erickson’s late goal.
Senior goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova had 38 saves to record her tenth win of the season. She is now 10-9-2 this year.
The Beavers are now 14-9-2 overall and 8-9-1 in WCHA play this season.
The Saturday night game was played in front of the second largest crowd ever in Bemidji for a Beaver women’s hockey game. The final attendance was 740, just shy of the record of 867 set on October 29, 2011 when the Beavers hosted Minnesota at the Sanford Center. The Beaver Radio Network gave away 800 tickets for the weekend series, including 5 suites which were donated by a number of local businesses. Total attendance for the weekend was 1368.
The Beaver Radio Network would like to thank all the great businesses who helped make this past weekend’s ticket and suite giveaway a success, and thanks to everyone who came out to cheer on the Lady Beavers this past weekend.
Bemidji State heads down to Minneapolis this weekend to take on one of the top teams in the country, the University of Minnesota Gophers. Friday’s game is at 6:07pm and Saturday’s is at 4:07pm.
