The Bemidji State women’s hockey team took the #1 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers into overtime Friday night at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Beavers gave up a shorthanded goal in the first period to Wisconsin’s Brianna Decker to make it a 1-0 hockey game. The Badgers would lead 2-0 in the second period before the Beavers would answer back on a goal scored from outside of the Badger blue line by Erika Wheelhouse late in the second. The goal would have to be reviewed as it bounced off the shoulder of the Badger netminder Alex Rigsby and end up in her glove just over the goal line into the Wisconsin net.
The Beavers would add the game tying goal at the 7:04 mark of the third period when freshman Whitney Wivoda put her fourth goal of the season to make it a 2-2 hockey game.
BSU would take the Badgers into overtime. Wisconsin scored 1:03 into the extra period for the win.
The Beavers outshot the Badgers 41-38.
