The Bemidji State women’s hockey team returns home to the Sanford Center this weekend for a series against WCHA-rival Minnesota State, University, Mankato. The Beavers are coming into the weekend with a 4-6-2 (1-4-1 WCHA) record while the Mavericks are 3-7 overall (0-6 WCHA).

About the Beavers:

• The Bemidji State women’s hockey team went a 1-0-1 versus The Ohio State University Nov. 8-9 at the OSU Ice Rink. The Beavers won the opener 3-2 before tying 2-2 in the series finale, but they picked up the shootout win to gain an extra point in the standings. Friday was Bemidji State’s first win in Columbus, Ohio since 2010.

• The shootout victory was the first for the Beavers since they beat Minnesota State Dec. 11, 2010, 2-1.

• In the series against Ohio State, the Bemidji State offense came from many different places as 10 players scored points.

• Senior forward Tess Dusik (F, Sr., Oak Bluff, Manitoba) continues to be a menace against the Buckeyes as she scored three points (2g, 1a) in the series. Dusik now has eight points against the Buckeyes in 12 career games.

• Dusik has also been the Beavers’ top scorer in conference action this season. She has scored four points against WCHA competition (2g-2a).

• Bemidji State’s goaltender Brittni Mowat (Fr., Glenboro, Manitoba) had a career-high 50 saves in Saturday’s game against Ohio State. The 50-save performance was the first since Zuzana Tomcikova posted 50 Dec. 9, 2011 versus University of Wisconsin. She moves to 4-5-2 in her freshman season. With her effort, Mowat was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

• BSU’s sophomore class has accounted for the bulk of the Beavers’ scoring this season. BSU’s eight second-year players have posted 13 goals (52%) and 14 assists (38%) for 27 points, or 44 percent, of the team’s 62 points (25g-37a).

• BSU has scored a power-play goal in three straight games and currently ranks fifth in the WCHA with a 18.4 power-play percentage.

• Bemidji State ranks third in the conference with 40 penalty kills in 46 opportunities (87%).

• This weekend, the Beavers play host to Minnesota State. Against MSU, BSU has its highest winning percentage against current members of the WCHA (.500).

• Kaitlyn Tougas (F, So., Thunder Bay, Ontario) has led the way with three career goals against the Minnesota State in four career games. Tougas has also chipped in two assists for a total of five points. Danielle Williams (D, Sr., Waconia, Minn.) also has scored five points against the Mavericks with two goals and three assists.
