The Bemidji State women’s hockey team had an outstanding weekend on home ice this past weekend. The Beavers defeated Minnesota State Friday 4-1 and Saturday 3-2. With the two wins, BSU has back-to-back sweeps in WCHA play.
The Beavers are getting scoring from a wide variety of players this season.
This is how this past weekend’s scoring looked:
Ivana Bilic – 2 assists
Alex Citrowske – 1 assist
Allie Duellman – 1 goal & 1 assist
Kristing Grenier – 1 goal (game winner Saturday), 6 shots on net
Madison Hutchinson – 2 assists
Rachael Kelly – 2 goals (game winner Friday), 12 shots on net
Lauren Miller – 2 assists, 5 shots on net
Hanna Moher – 2 goals & 1 assist, 6 shots on net
Kaitlyn Tougas – 1 goal & 1 assist
Freshman goaltender Brittni Mowat finished the weekend with 48 saves and 2 wins to improve her record this season to 6-5-1 overall & 3-3-1 in the WCHA.
Hanna Moher leads the team with 7 goals, while Kaitlyn Tougas and Alex Citrowske lead in assists with 6 apiece. Moher and Tougas lead the team in points with 9 each. Seniors Tess Dusik and Allie Duellman, along with Citrowske are right behind them with 7 points each.
The BSU special teams have been fantastic this season. The Beavers have scored a powerplay goal in each of their past five games. BSU’s power play is 6th in the nation, with 9 goals in 44 opportunities for 20.5%.
Until this past Saturday afternoon Bemidji State’s penalty kill unit hadn’t give up a powerplay goal to their opponent since November 1st against UND. Their PK was perfect through 304 minutes and 18 seconds. That streak came to an end when the Mavericks scored at the 9:38 mark of the first period on Saturday.
BSU is ranked 11th in the country on the penalty kill, shutting down 49 of 56 chances for 87.5%. The Beavers are also 4th in the nation on combined special teams through 14 games.
Bemidji State is 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-1-1 in the WCHA. Their sixth win equals the number of wins BSU had last season.
The Beavers head to Duluth this weekend on a 4-game unbeaten streak, taking on UMD Friday at 7:37pm and Saturday at 6:07pm.
The Bulldogs are 4-4-2-1 in league play, with 6 wins this season and enter the weekend on a 3-game unbeaten streak after sweeping OSU on the road.
