The Bemidji State women’s hockey team only gave up a single goal against the University of Minnesota Duluth in their final weekend of the season at the Sanford Center.
Despite a valiant effort Friday afternoon, the Beavers fell to the #9 Bulldogs 1-0.
Saturday was Senior Day at the Sanford Center; a celebration of Bemidji State’s winningest senior class. The six seniors consist of Kimberly Lieder, Alana McElhinney, Zuzana Tomcikova, Montana Vichorek, Marlee Wheelhouse, and Lauren Williams. They own the record of winning the most games during their four years at BSU with 47.
The Beavers came out on Saturday afternoon hungry to win and break a 7 game winless streak and send out their seniors with a bang.
Bemidji State’s Emily Erickson put the Beavers on the scoreboard at the 10:49 mark of the second period. Abby Williams set up Erickson in what was the first BSU goal in nearly five scoreless periods of hockey.
Tess Dusik put the Beavers up 2-0 at the 13:24 of the 3rd period. Sadie Lundquist recorded her 20th assist of the season on Dusik’s goal.
BSU’s senior goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova stopped all 20 shots on net for her 4th shutout of the season and her 18th of her career. It was also her tenth win of this season. With those 20 saves, Tomcikova is now fourth all time in NCAA Division I women’s hockey for saves with 3410.
The Beavers wrap up the regular season against St. Cloud this Friday and Saturday at 2:07pm at the National Hockey Center. Those games can be heard right here on the Beaver Radio Network and in Bemidji on WMIS FM 92.1 “The River.”
