The Beavers bounced back after their first loss of the season and defeated St. Cloud State 99-82 Dec. 6 by shooting 54.5 percent from the field and allowing SCSU (picked to finish first in the NSIC North in the coaches’ preseason poll) to shoot just 34.2 percent. Senior Morgan Lee led the offensive output with a career-high 33 points. BSU wasn’t able to complete the home weekend sweep Dec. 7, falling 70-63 to Minnesota Duluth (pegged second in the NSIC North in the preseason poll). Senior Kate Warmack posted her third and fourth straight double-doubles with 17 points, 11 rebounds Friday and 20 points, 11 rebounds Saturday. In three NSIC games, Warmack leads the NSIC in scoring with 23.3 points per game, while her 11.0 rebounds per contest is second.

• In all games, Morgan Lee’s 20.4 points per game sits second (28th nationally), while Warmack’s 19.1 points per contest is fourth (49th nationally).

The Dragons
MSU Moorhead is 4-3 overall after going 4-0 in nonconference play and proceeding to drop each NSIC game since starting league play. The Dragons lost at home to Northern State (96-88) before going on the road and losing to U-Mary (77-75) and Minot State (72-58). Morgan Zabel led MSUM in scoring in each nonconference game and in the last contest at MISU and averages a team-high 16.6 points per game. Two other players are in double-figures, including Megan Strese, who owns 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Dragons Head Coach Karla Nelson is in her 14th season at MSUM.
All-time Series vs. the Dragons
The Beavers are 39-57 all-time versus the Dragons. BSU has lost three straight to MSUM with its last win coming in Moorhead, Minn. Dec. 2, 2011 by the score of 75-68. Under Mike Curfman, the Beavers are 3-14 versus MSUM, which includes three overtime games (1-2).
The Wolves
Northern State started the season 5-0 with a 4-0 nonconference record and an NSIC-opening road win at MSU Moorhead by the score of 96-88. NSU then went on the road and fell to Minot State (75-68 OT) and U-Mary (87-83). Four different players have led the team in scoring this season, guided three times by the team’s leading scorer, Rachel Krogman (16.9 ppg). Three others are averaging in double-figures, including Allison Kusler (12.9 ppg), who also leads the Wolves in assists (3.4 apg). Curt Fredrickson is in his 35th season as head coach of the Wolves.
All-time Series vs. the Wolves
Bemidji State trails the all-time series with Northern State 10-47. BSU is 2-1 in the last three meetings, which includes a split last season, as the Beavers won at home 64-57 and lost on the road 53-50. Prior to a victory Jan. 28, 2012, BSU had lost seven straight.
NSIC Preseason Poll/Player to Watch
The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team was picked to finish 14th in the 2013-14 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Senior guard Morgan Lee (Hayward, Wis.) was named BSU’s Player to Watch. The Beavers earned 45 overall points for 14th, while they were pegged eighth in the NSIC North Division.
A Grand Accomplishment
Senior guard Morgan Lee became the 16th player in Bemidji State women’s basketball history to reach 1,000 career points with a 29-point effort in BSU’s 85-61 victory over Western State (Colo.), Nov. 16. Lee follows in the footsteps of her father, David Lee, who scored 2,034 points for the Beavers as a student-athlete from 1984-88. She is currently 14th all-time on Bemidji State’s scoring list.

Senior Kate Warmack is climbing BSU’s career blocks chart and with 90 career swats, she sits tied for fourth. She has nine blocks this season.
