Bemidji State University’s Brock Lutes (G, 6-4, 215, Jr., Portland, Ore.) has been named Beaver Pride Male Athlete of the Week during the week of Feb. 3-9.
Lutes averaged 36.5 points per game and shot 64.3 percent from the field, leading BSU men’s basketball to a sweep of Minot State University and University of Mary Feb. 7-8. He shot 61.1 percent from 3-point range and went 8-for-10 (80%) from the free throw line on the weekend and added three rebounds and three assists. The junior fell one point shy of tying the BSU school record for points in a game Saturday when we scored 43. He went 17-for-24 (70.8%) from the field to tie the program record for field goals made and went 8-for-11 (72.7%) from 3-point land to fall one 3-pointer shy of tying the BSU record. The 17 field goals made is an NSIC-best this season, while the eight 3-pointers made is tied for first. Friday, Lutes recorded his league-leading fourth game with 30 or more points when he posted 30 points on 10-for-18 (55.6%) shooting from the field, a 3-for-7 (42.9%) performance from long range and a 7-for-8 (87.5%) effort from the charity stripe.
He leads the NSIC in scoring with 20.5 points per game.
This week’s honor marks the second of the season for Lutes, while it is the sixth of the season for a member of the BSU men’s basketball squad. In addition to his previous selection for the weekly honor Jan. 8, Lutes joins teammates: Zach Noreen (F, Sr., Avon, Minn.), the Nov. 27 and Jan. 29 recipient, and Maxie Rosenbloom (F, Sr., St. Paul, Minn.), who earned the award Dec. 11 and Jan. 22.
For his efforts Lutes was also named NSIC Player of the Week.
