The four cadidates were in town last week for interviews. The candidate were put through an entire day of questions from different committees. The candidates also got a walk through the Sanford Center and the campus.
The Beaver Radio Network has learned that an announcement of who got the job…and a press conference with the new coach…will happen ealry next week.
So, what do we know about the candidates? The candidates include: Brett Bruininks, Amber Fryklund, Troy Jutting and James Scanlan.
Bruininks is the only person in this list that I don’t know personally. Amber Fryklund has been the top assistant for the Beavers the last several years. Troy Jutting is BSU Men’s Coach Tom Serratore’s good friend…and was a college roommate at MSU Mankato. Jim Scanlan is one of the 50 Greats of 50 Years, and the dad of former BSU soccer player Bri Scanlan.
Bruininks was a head coach at the Division 3 level. Fryklund has never been a college head coach, but is the school’s leading scorer. Jutting has never coached girls or women, but has the most college coaching experience while being the head men’s coach at MSU Mankato. Scanlan has been assistant coach in college…a long time ago…but has been a boys and girls head coach at East Grand Forks High School.
The Beavers did quite well with Sertich…who didn’t have any college head coaching experience. So, Scanlan…with his ties to BSU…might be a fit.
Fryklund knows the BSU program. She also has been a coach that was worked with the current team.
Jutting, to me, is the wild card. He has a TON of experience as a college coach…just on the mens side.
Bruininks is another wild card…since I don’t know him. All stories I hear from Mankato, is that he is very ready to be a head coach.
Who will get the job? We’ll find out on Tuesday. BSU has a press converence planned for Tuesday at 3pm. We will find out then! (press conference audio online at http://braverradionetwork.com
