The Bemidji State Women’s Hockey team has a new head coach. Former BSU men’s hockey goalie Jim Scanlan was named to the post yesterday. Scanlan was a longtime men’s assistant coach at North Dakota. He has been a head coach of both boys and girls teams at East Grand Forks Senior High. He was also the Athletic Director at East Grand Forks.
BSU Athletic Director Tracy Dill says that Scanlan, with his ties to BSU, is a natural fit. Scanlan says that his first order of business is to reach out to, and to recruit, the current players.
Scanlan says that his former coach, Bob Peters, has come through in his coaching. Scanlan is one of the 50 Greats of 50 Years.
Scanlan has been in East Grand Forks for the last 18 years. He admits that change is scary, but he also says that this job, at this time, is a natural fit.
Scanlan takes over for Steve Sertich, who retired at the end of the season. Scanlan begins his duties on July 1st.
