After a four-game road swing, the Bemidji State University volleyball team returns home for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matches against Upper Iowa University and Winona State University this weekend. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday, respectively.

Scouting the Beavers
Three Bemidji State players have over 100 kills this season. Leading the way has been sophomore Jessica Yost (OH, Bemidji, Minn.) with 187 kills. Yost is followed closely by fellow sophomore Amanda Tronick (OH, Hutchinson, Minn.) with 143 kills. BSU’s most efficient hitter this season, however, has been Rachel Craig (MB, Sr., Wadena, Minn.) with a .247 hitting percentage and 115 kills.

Setting up Bemidji State’s offense has been senior Courtney Volkmann (Wadena, Minn.). Volkmann has registered 383 assists (9.12/per set), which ranks tenth in the NSIC.

Defensively, Bemidji State has been led by junior Kayla DeJong (DS, Jefferson, Wis.). DeJong leads BSU with 251 digs (4.40/per set). On the block, Rachel Craig leads the way with 51 total blocks (0.89/per set). Craig’s 51 blocks currently ranks eighth in the NSIC.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference currently has six teams ranked in the latest AVCA Top 25 Poll and three teams are ranked in the top 10. BSU is 0-3 so far this season against these six schools currently ranked (University of Minnesota Duluth (2), Concordia-St. Paul (3), Southwest Minnesota State University (7), Wayne State College (13), Augustana College (19) and Northern State University (24).
