Dean Blais gives instant credibility to UNO. Not that they didn’t have it before, but now there’s no doubt about that fact.
In my opinion, Dean wouldn’t take that job if UNO planned to stay in the CCHA. I could very well be dead wrong…but that’s my feeling. Dean knows how to coach and how to recruit in the WCHA. He’s 58 years old. I’m not sure he’d want to have all those trips to the state of Michigan. He mentioned in an interview at CHN.com that he’s not sure if his body can handle the road trips for more than five years or so. Travel is shorter in the “W” than the “C”.
I worked in Grand Forks when Dean was coaching there (I hosted his weekly radio show). Dean is a great coach…and UNO is lucky to get him.
