Bemidji State University women’s basketball travels to Wayne State College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to start the first round of NSIC/Sanford Health Women’s Basketball Tournament at Rice Auditorium.
The Series
The Beavers are 13-28 all-time against Wayne State College, with the Wildcats 5-0 in the last five meetings. Bemidji State’s last win was an 83-79 victory Jan. 2, 2010. The two teams met once this season with Wayne State topping BSU 99-52 on Dec. 13th in Wayne.
This is the second year in a row that Bemidji State has met Wayne State in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. Last season the Wildcats defeated the Beavers 72-42, Feb. 26, 2014.
The Beavers, now 6-21 overall, 3-19 in the NSIC, ended the 2014-15 campaign dropping two games at home to Minnesota State University Moorhead, 67-52, and to Northern State University, 78-54.
Sierra Senske paved the way for the Beavers against MSU Moorhead as she scored 16 points, including going 8-for-9 from the foul line. Senske tallied four rebounds and one block in the game.
Saturday against Northern State, Tatum Sheley recorded 16 points, including going 4-of-8 from 3-point range, while Aimee Pelzer had 11 points and was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc to lead the team.
The Beavers ended last weekend shooting 36 percent from the floor and 27 percent from beyond the arc. BSU was 76 percent from the charity stripe in two games and averaged 24.0 rebounds per contest.
Redshirt freshman Sierra Senske has led the squad for most of the season and is averaging 14.4 points per contest to now rank 11th among the NSIC top scorers.
Senske is shooting a team-best .477 from the field, which is also 11th in the NSIC, and is .750 (132-176) from the foul line. She is also leading BSU’s rebounding efforts with a 5.9 per game average and in blocks with 21.
As a team, the Beavers are shooting .390 from the floor and .294 beyond the arc. BSU ranks eighth in the league for free throw percentage (.736).
