The Bemidji State University track and field team opened up the 2015 outdoor season campaign on the road. They first traveled to St. Joseph, Minn. on Saturday to compete in the CSB-SJU Invitational. Sunday, the Beavers headed to North Dakota to compete in the Marauder Open at the University of Mary in Bismarck.
Saturday in St. Joseph, several Beavers found success. Sara Melom, Nicole Crummy, and Denna Hegg all captured second place finishes.
Melom finished second in the 400-meter dash and the high jump. She set her personal-best with a time of 59.76 in the 400, and had a high jump of 5-0.25.
Crummy posted a time of 2:25.68 in the 800-meter run. Hegg tossed a 131-9 in the hammer throw.
Chloe Miller and Ciara Brewster also established personal-bests. Miller finished in third with a time of 16.75 in the 100-meter hurdles. Brewster measured a toss of 128-07 in the hammer and a 111-03 in the discus to open the season with personal-best marks.
At the Maruder Open, Hailey Horob enjoyed competing in her home state of North Dakota, as she set a career outdoor high in the pole vault. Horob finished in third with a jump of 10-11.
Bemidji State continues its outdoor season next weekend when it travels to the campus of Concordia University-St. Paul and Sea Foam Stadium to compete in the Holst Invitational.
