The Bemidji State University soccer team played nearly 200 minutes of scoreless soccer this weekend, but Sunday, a Miranda Famestad goal late gave the Beavers a 1-0 victory over Upper Iowa University.
With the score tied 0-0 and the end of regulation nearing at Pattison Field in Fayette, Iowa, Bemidji State was awarded a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and Famestad drilled her second goal of the season. The goal came in the 87th minute, propelling the Beavers to victory.
Anna Fobbe turned aside six shots in the match, logging her second consecutive shutout and fifth blank sheet of the season. She improves to 7-5-1 in 2015.
BSU was out shot 16-11 in the match, but were more efficient taking an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Rachael Norton led the Beavers with two shots on target.
The Beavers, now 10-5-1 overall and 7-5-1 in NSIC play, wraps up a five-match road swing Friday, with a 7 p.m. tilt at St. Cloud State University.
