Tied 2-2 deep into the third period Minnesota State University’s Jon Jutzi ripped a power-play goal past Bemidji State goaltender Michael Bitzer to earn a 3-2 win and complete the Western Collegiate Hockey Association sweep of the Beavers at Sanford Center.
For the second consecutive night, special teams played a pivotal role for the Beavers. While BUS was 2-for-5 on the man advantage, it also surrendered two power-play goals and spent a total of 10 minutes short-handed.
Gerry Fitzgerald opened the scoring at the 15:51 mark netting his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a pass from Leo Fitzgerald and Brendan Harms. The goal marked a streak of five straight games with a goal for the sophomore matching a career-long five-game point streak set during his freshman campaign.
