Locked in a scoreless tie to open the third period, the Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey team got goals from Phillip Marinaccio and Gerry Fitzgerald in final 15 minutes to take the game 2-0 and complete the nonconference series sweep of Arizona State University, Saturday at Sanford Center.
The victory stands as BSU’s fourth straight, while the Beavers are unbeaten in six games (5-0-1) to open the calendar year.
The BSU penalty-kill unit continued its dominance at home, holding the Sun Devils without a goal on five power-play opportunities.
The Beavers, now 10-9-4 overall, return their focus to Western Collegiate Hockey Association play Jan. 22-23 when they welcome Ferris State University to Sanford center for a two-game series. Faceoff times are set for 7:37 p.m. Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.
