The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team made necessary adjustments Saturday afternoon following a full-court press from Upper Iowa University to take a 70-53 win at the BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers (7-13, 3-13 NSIC) took their seventh win at home on the season as junior Tatum Sheley and sophomore Sierra Senske each topped 20 points scoring.
Junior guard Tatum Sheley took over the first half while putting up 15 points in the opening two quarters. She converted three shots from behind the arc, the first two during the first period. A buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Sheley at the end of the first quarter gave the Beavers a 16-7 lead.
Sheley finished with a game-high and career-high 25 points while converting 7-of-14 from the field, 4-of-6 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. The 25 points is the most scored by a Beaver this season. Senske also converted 7-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the charity stripe while also grabbing seven rebounds.
Bemidji State hits the road again next weekend as Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls plays host in interdivisional matchups. The Beavers will face the Mustangs and the Cougars for their only meetings of the regular season Feb. 5-6.
