The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team took a one-point lead into halftime Saturday against Northern State University, but the Wolves made a second half push to take down the Beavers, 68-53, in the regular season finale. BSU (7-19, 3-19 NSIC) tied or outscored NSU (20-6, 16-5 NSIC) in three quarters as guard Aimee Pelzer led the Beavers with 17 points and added seven rebounds.

The Beavers found their touch from behind the arc to begin the game, scoring the first four baskets from downtown. Center Katie Miller began the show with her first 3-pointer of the season. Center Sarah Durand along with guards Tatum Sheley and Hanna Zerr accounted for the following baskets while Durand’s score gave BSU its largest lead of the first quarter, 9-5. The teams traded leads eight times in the opening period, the final time for a 19-18 BSU advantage as Pelzer scored her first basket and the team’s fifth 3-pointer of the quarter.

Bemidji State finished shooting 31.5 percent (17-54) from the floor and 37.0 percent (10-27) from behind the arc. The Wolves took the rebound margin, 40-30, and put up 11 second chance points compared to three for the Beavers. NSU took advantage of play in the paint as well, totaling 32 points compared to 10 for BSU.

Bemidji State travels for the first round of the NSIC postseason Wednesday, visiting No. 8 Winona State University. The Beavers and Warriors met once this season, a 65-56 win by WSU in Bemidji. Listen to the game on the Beaver radio Network.
