The Bemidji State Womens Golf team will open the 2016 season this weekend hosting the Tracy Lane Memorial Tournament this weekend at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. The event, named in honor of former BSU golfer Tracy (Depew) Lane who died of cervical cancer Aug. 10, 2013, at age 31, will benefit the Tracy Lane Foundation to help raise awareness of this preventable disease.
Teams competing in the event will be Minnesota State University, Mankato, St. Cloud State University, Minot State University, Concordia University-St Paul, Minnesota State University Moorhead, University of Sioux Falls, University of Minnesota Crookston, Jamestown College and BSU.
Following the first round of play, Sept. 11, there will be a special dinner and presentation by Tracy Lane’s husband and co-founder of the Tracy Lane Foundation, Mr. Derek Lane, along with Tracy’s mother, Judy Mayotte. Together with Executive Director Alex Lee, they have come together to tell Tracy Lane’s story. All proceeds to mutually benefit the Tracy Lane Foundation and the Bemidji State University Women’s Golf Program.
Lane was a member of the BSU WOmen’s golf team in the early 2000s and twice finished amongst the top 15 individuals at the NSIC CHampionship. Following her collegiate career and grduation, she went on to become a PGA professional in California. In the final stages of Tracy’s battle with cancer, she and her husband Derek started the Tracy Lane Foundation.
