One road trip in the books, and last weekend went well.
The BSU women’s hockey team got a split on the weekend, winning Friday night 3-0 and falling 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. Kudos to the Beavers for battling hard in the second half of Saturday’s game. The consensus was that they played their best period of hockey in the 3rd of game two.
Traveling with the women’s hockey team is entertaining, to say the least. There were many highlights from our travels last weekend, the more interesting of our adventures have already been blogged.
On our way out of Detroit on Saturday, the team was excited to find a Caribou Coffee in the airport. The drink of choice was the Cookies & Cream Snowdrift. The consensus was that it wasn’t as good as the one in Bemidji (or so I was told). Some of the ladies did some window shopping while others napped or worked on homework. And yet others had their noses stuck in good books, like Montana Vichorek who couldn’t put down Dan Brown’s latest book “The Lost Symbol.” A couple of the girls were passing around the latest “Cosmo” magazine. Probably the most memorable moment at the Detroit airport on the way out of town was Erin Cody and Emily Erickson brushing their teeth…not in the bathroom either. They were doing this in the concourse. We found out how their teammate Abby Williams gets the willies (no pun intended) when she sees other people brushing their teeth. I can say it’s not one of my favorite things to watch either.
When we got on the plane to leave, the entire team took over the back of the plane. Just when I thought it would be quiet and the girls would be wiped out from a long, but quick road trip, it was just the opposite. They were giggling, jamming to their iPods and playing card games.
Traveling with the Beavers is fun! I learn something new about each and every one of them with every trip we take. The one thing I can attest to is that this team has great character. They’re polite, considerate, hard working, positive, and talented. Beaver hockey fans can be proud of this group of young women. I’m proud to have the opportunity to travel with this team and their great staff and get to know them on and off the ice.
