Beaver Women Look for Quick Start to NSIC Play

Beaver women’s basketball coach Chelsea DeVille makes no secret of it: “We have not won a true road game since I became the head coach at Bemidji State.”  In fact, the last road win for the BSU women’s program was a 71-69 decision at Minnesota-Crookston on December 19, 2014.

It’s an ugly stat, and Coach DeVille is almost certainly sick and tired of having to talk about it.  She hinted as much by acknowledging that she’s happy the 2016-17 NSIC season begins on the road this weekend at Minnesota-Duluth (Friday at 6pm) and St. Cloud State (Saturday at 4pm).  Last season, the Beavers lost a triple-overtime heartbreaker at Duluth 81-79 and while the players aren’t saying it, you know they’d love nothing more than to end the losing skid at Romano Gymnasium.

The second leg of the road trip is at Saint Cloud against a very good Huskies team that BSU had the chance to watch play Fort Hays State two weeks ago.  A split of the weekend would be a great start, but as Coach DeVille said on Wednesday, “When you win on Friday, you can breathe a little easier on Saturday.”
