The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team seeks its 48th win in 62 games all-time versus University of Minnesota Crookston Thursday, Dec. 15 from Lysaker Gymnasium. The Beavers (3-6, 1-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference), and Golden Eagles (3-6, 0-4 NSIC) are scheduled to begin play at 7 p.m. in Crookston, Minn.
Bemidji State controls the all-time series lead against Minnesota Crookston, 47-14. The series began Jan. 13, 1922, a 21-15 win for the Golden Eagles. UMC won the first two games in the series and seven of the first 10. Bemidji State has never lost consecutive games against Minnesota Crookston since 1927 and has won 15 of the last 16 games, including a sweep last season.
The Beavers beat the Golden Eagles, 62-58, in Crookston Nov. 28, 2015 before securing the season sweep with a 72-65 win in Bemidji Dec. 18, 2015. Will Harvey scored a career high 28 points against UMC Dec. 18 while shooting 11-of-13 from the field and 3-of-3 from behind the arc. He also recorded 13 rebounds for his first career double-double. Harvey averaged 20 points per game against UMC, while Ben Best averaged 10.5 points per game.
The Beavers shot 41.8 percent from the field and tied a season-low with 18.8 percent shooting from 3-point range against the Wolves. Northern State finished the game shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 44.0 percent beyond the arc.
BSU shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first half to hold a 44-37 lead at halftime against MSUM. The Dragons made a second half adjustment, changing to a zone defense which propelled them to a 15-2 run midway through the final half. Bemidji State was able to pull within three points with under one minute in the game but free throws sealed the game for MSUM.
