I think it’s safe to say that the Beavers aren’t satisfied with their 5-10-1 record. But, to say that it wasn’t (at least somewhat) expected, would be foolish.
Look at last year’s schedule. BSU played FOUR ranked team games (beating three of them…Miami and Duluth x2, while losing to Michigan). This year, BSU has played eight games against ranked teams (going 5-2-1 against UND, UMD, Denver, UNO).
What has happened in the past can’t be used as a measuring stick anymore. This is a whole new deal.
The “Goods”
- beating Omaha twice
- scoring on their first shot of the game four times
- getting the penalty kill over 80% after starting the year under 68%
- playing a bunch of close games (see below, though)
The “Bads”
- going 1-4-1 in games decided by one goal
- penalty kill under 70% for a few weeks…certainly cost them some wins
- only selling out one game…this is a new building in a new conference after all
Let’s hope that the team can “turn the page” on the first half…and make a run at home ice in the second half.
