The Bemidji State University softball team used the throwing arm of senior pitcher Jessica Yost to earn two wins against University of Minnesota, Crookston to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers (12-5, 2-0 NSIC) defeated the Golden Eagles (10-14, 0-2 NSIC) in game one 8-0 in five innings and completed the sweep with a 3-1 win in game two.
Yost didn’t allow a base runner in the first game of the day to pitch the first perfect game of her career and also struck out 12-of-15 total batters.
The Bemidji, Minn., native started in game two and pitched four innings allowing just one run to pick up her second win of the day while sophomore Rochelle Koshalek came on to pitch three innings and earn the save.
In total, Yost allowed just one hit in nine innings over a two game spread and allowed just one earned run. She also earned 20 strikeouts while only allowing one walk.
Bemidji State will continue league play at home this weekend by hosting Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Northern State University Saturday and Sunday, respectively, for a pair of doubleheaders. Game one against the Dragons Saturday is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start while Sunday will kick-off at noon.
