The Bemidji State University track and field team collected five top-10 finishes in the throwing events at the St. John’s Invitational as the Beavers continued their outdoor campaign April 8-9. Freshman Genavieve Backlund and sophomore Regan Grube each finished among the top 10 in two events.
Backlund, who claimed fourth place in the discus, by stretching the tape to 127-feet, 8-inches, led the Beavers. The freshman also took 10th in the hammer throw finishing one inch behind teammate Grube, who established a personal best 135-4. Grube also took 10th in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 98-0. In addition, Samara Tobeck turned in a top-10 finish, taking seventh in the hammer throw (138-10).
On the track, Christa Benson led the Beavers. The sophomore just missed her personal-best in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing sixth with a mark of 68.17. Her time was good enough to rank 11th in the NSIC this outdoor season.
The Beavers hit the road again this weekend as they travel to St. Peter, Minn. to compete in the Lee Krough Invitational. Events are set to begin at noon.
