Bemidji State University forward Jordan George (So., Madison, Wis.) has been named Red Baron Western Collegiate Hockey Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week in an announcement by league officials today.
The honor comes on the heels of BSU’s series split at intrastate rival St. Cloud State University, which featured the Beavers’ first win as members of the WCHA.
George totaled six points in the weekend series, having a hand in each of the Bemidji State’s six goals (1-5=6). George recorded a season-high three points in the series opener helping on a goal to give BSU the lead early, while he ignited a comeback attempt in the third period scoring a power-play goal and assisting on another. George matched his three-point effort the following evening, by establishing a career-high three assists in the 3-2, overtime victory. The sophomore finished the weekend with a +3 plus/minus rating.
The native of Madison, Wis. stands as the first BSU player to be individually recognized with one of the WCHA’s weekly awards.
George shares the honor with Stephen Schultz of Colorado College, while University of Nebraska Omaha sophomore goaltender John Falkner was selected as the league’s defensive player of the week and University of Wisconsin’s Mark Zengerle earned rookie of the week laurels.
Bemidji State (1-4-1; 1-4-1 WCHA) hosts first-time WCHA foe University of Alaska Anchorage (1-5-2; 0-3-1 WCHA) this weekend. The series gets underway with a 7:37 p.m. contest Friday evening and will conclude Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. affair. Both games will be played at Sanford Center.
