Beavers host final home weekend versus Huskies and Bulldogs

Bemidji State University men’s basketball hosts its final home weekend of the 2019-20 season Feb. 21-22 against St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth at BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers begin the weekend at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Huskies before BSU honors its two seniors at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against the Bulldogs.

St. Cloud State leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 103-47. BSU snapped a six-game losing streak to SCSU with a 91-82 win on Jan. 4, 2020 in St. Cloud, Minn.

Four Beavers combined for 80 of BSU’s 91 points, led by junior forward Derek Thompson with 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting. He recorded a career-high 15 rebounds for his sixth career double-double. Sophomore guard Max Bjorklund also reached 20 points scoring on 6-of-8 shooting and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Nick Wagner scored 19 points while senior forward Logan Bader added 13 points with eight rebounds.

The series began Jan. 6, 1922, a 47-13 win by St. Cloud State in St. Cloud.

Minnesota Duluth leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 93-46. The Bulldogs have now won four straight games against the Beavers after a 73-57 win on Jan. 3, 2020 in Duluth, Minn.

Bader and Bjorklund were the only Beavers to score in double-figures, led by Bjorklund with 12 points. Junior forward Zach Baumgartner led the team with six rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.

The series began Feb. 21, 1931, a 28-26 win by BSU in Duluth. The Beavers won four of the first five games in the series, which is the fourth-longest series versus a single opponent in BSU history, behind St. Cloud State (149 games), Winona State University (159 games) and Minnesota State University Moorhead (186 games).
