Track & Field to compete in “Battle for the Paddle” at Winona State Meet

Friday, April 9 will spark a competition for bragging rights as the Bemidji State University track & field team attempts to bring home the “Battle for the Paddle” trophy at the Winona State Meet. Field events begin at 3 p.m. followed by track events at 3:30 p.m. at Paul Giel Field in Winona, Minn.

Bemidji State will go head-to-head against St. Cloud State University, the University of Minnesota Duluth and Winona State University, with the overall team point winner taking home the Battle for the Paddle trophy.

Junior mid-distance runner Ryne Prigge added her first BSU outdoor record to her belt after the team took 12 event wins at the Cougar Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday, April 3. Prigge grabbed a first-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a program-record time of 4:44.50. She topped the previous record by 0.60 seconds set by Tina Larson in 2013. Prigge also took first in the 800m run with a time 2:21.27.

Sophomore thrower Tierra Doss took a first and a second place finish in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively, while throwing the nation’s 23rd best mark in the shot put. She threw 43-feet-11.75-inches (13.40m) in the shot put and 144-04 (44.00m) in the hammer throw.

Junior jumper Reygan Brown earned two event wins in the high jump and triple jump. She recorded a personal record leap of 5-01.00 (1.55m) in the high jump and 34-07.75 (10.56m) in the triple jump.

Bemidji State swept the top three finishes in the 100m dash, 200m dash and 400m hurdles, high jump. On the day, 44 personal records were set while the team finished with 38 top five finishes.
