Baseball series at MSU moved to Sioux Falls, S.D.

Due to snowfall in the Mankato area, Bemidji State University baseball and Minnesota State University, Mankato’s doubleheader rescheduled for Thursday has now been moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., at 6 and 8 p.m.

The Beavers and Mavericks mid-week doubleheader will be played Thursday, March 24 at Ronken Field on the campus of Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D. BSU and MSU will throw the first pitch at 6 p.m. or 45 minutes after the conclusion of Augustana’s doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Bemidji State was swept during its conference-opening, three-game series at Concordia University-St. Paul.

The Golden Bears came away with two narrow wins over the Beavers including scores of 2-0, 7-2 and 2-1 at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn.

Senior pitcher Logan Barrick (1-2) threw a complete game to open the series with 6.0 innings and tied a career-high seven strikeouts. He allowed two hits, two walks and two earned runs and held opposing hitters to a .094 average.

Five BSU pitchers combined to throw the series finale with just two runs and five hits allowed.

The Beavers are averaging 4.4 runs per game and hitting .235 with a .308 slugging percentage and a .324 on-base percentage. BSU is 23-of-31 on stolen base attempts and has caught opposing base runners stealing eight times.

BSU’s pitching staff holds a 5.26 ERA, an opposing batting average of .299 and 117 strikeouts to 62 walks.

Senior Sam Kalberer leads BSU with a .383 batting average, a .596 slugging percentage, a .473 on-base percentage, 18 hits, seven walks and four doubles. His batting average ranks eighth in the NSIC while he is ninth in the conference with only four strikeouts in 47 at-bats. Kalberer has two three-hit games, is on an eight-game hitting streak and is on an 11-game reached base streak. He has reached base in 41 of his last 42 games dating back to the 2021 season.

Senior Parker Borg led BSU with four hits over the weekend at CSP and is on a six-game hitting streak and a 10-game reached base streak. Freshman Hunter Daymond is also on a 10-game reached base streak and has one of BSU’s four three-hit games.

Senior pitcher Logan Barrick leads the BSU pitching staff with 21.2 innings and 27 strikeouts. His 27 strikeouts rank eighth in the NSIC while his 4.57 ERA ranks 21st.

Junior pitcher Jackson Back holds a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings, including one start in five appearances, with 13 strikeouts and an opposing batting average of .219.
