Bemidji State to play as home team in weekend series at Wayne State

Bemidji State University baseball’s three-game series against Wayne State College will be played in Wayne, Neb., April 2-3 after a site reversal due to snow at BSU Baseball Field. The Beavers and Wildcats open the series with a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. Saturday followed by the series finale at 12 p.m. Sunday at Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.

Bemidji State fell during its five games played last week against (RV) Minnesota State University, Mankato and (RV) Augustana University.

The Mavericks beat the Beavers 12-1 and 10-0 Thursday, March 24 as part of a site change in Sioux Falls, S.D., while the Vikings beat the Beavers 10-0, 22-0 and 13-2 at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.

Senior pitcher Alex Fietek threw 4.0 innings without allowing a hit or a run and recorded two strikeouts in two games. Junior pitcher Konrad Kisch pitched 2.0 innings with no hits or runs allowed and one strikeout in two games.

The Beavers are averaging 3.5 runs per game and hitting .209 with a .269 slugging percentage and a .299 on-base percentage. BSU is 24-of-33 on stolen base attempts and has caught opposing base runners stealing nine times.

BSU’s pitching staff holds a 7.25 ERA, an opposing batting average of .327 and 139 strikeouts to 82 walks.

Senior Sam Kalberer leads BSU with a .475 slugging percentage, eight walks and four doubles. Kalberer’s eight-game hitting streak and 11-game reached base streak were snapped following Thursday’s doubleheader finale against MSU.

Junior pitcher Grant Hartmann (1-1) leads the BSU pitching staff with a 3.45 ERA in 15.2 innings. He is holding opposing batters to a .302 batting average and has 10 strikeouts to two walks in four starts on the mound.

Senior pitcher Logan Barrick leads the BSU pitching staff with 23.0 innings and 29 strikeouts. His 29 strikeouts rank 15th in the NSIC.

Fietek leads the BSU staff and relievers with a 0.00 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts and four walks. He has yet to allow a hit in three relief appearances this season.
