Zmolek, Sholl named CCHA Players of the Week

After helping the Bemidji State University Men’s Hockey team to a series split at Northern Michigan University, senior Will Zmolek and sophomore Mattias Sholl have been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week.

Zmolek earns his second career CCHA weekly accolade and first of the season while Sholl earns his second weekly accolade of the season after previously being named the goaltender of the week on Oct. 24.

Zmolek helped Bemidji State to a road split at Northern Michigan, picking up a goal and an assist to lead all CCHA defensemen with two points. He scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Saturday’s 4-1 victory and was tied for the team lead by going +2 on the weekend with two blocked shots.

Sholl started both games between the pipes in the Beavers’ series split at Northern Michigan, going 1-1-0 with a 1.01 goals-against average and a league-best .967 save percentage. He allowed only two goals, while making 58 total saves in 118:51 of action. He turned aside 33-of-34 shots in the Beavers 2-0 loss on Friday night, before stopping 25-of-26 shots on Saturday to earn his third win of the season.

Bemidji State will have the weekend off from action as the Beavers will have their final bye week of the season.
