Beavers travel to MSUM and Northern State eyeing first NSIC wins

The Bemidji State University Women’s Basketball team look to win its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games this weekend while on the road. The Beavers will first travel to Minnesota State University, Moorhead for a 5:30 p.m., tip-off Friday, Dec. 9. The following day BSU will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., for a 4 p.m., tip-off against Northern State University.
 
The Series vs MSU Moorhead
·         MSU Moorhead leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 70-43.
·         The Beavers and Dragons last met Feb. 12, 2022, an 83-63 win by MSUM in Moorhead, Minn.
·         MSUM leads the series when played in Moorhead, 30-10. 
·         Bemidji State and MSU Moorhead first met Jan. 1, 1968, a 33-14 win for MSUM.
 
The Series vs Northern State
·         Northern State leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 11-61.
·         The Beavers and Wolves last met Feb. 11, 2022, a 75-67 win by NSU in Aberdeen, S.D.
·         NSU leads the series when played in Aberdeen, 35-2. 
·         Bemidji State and Northern State first met Jan. 24, 1986, 77-74 win for NSU.
 
 

Fast Break Bemidji State

The Beavers look for first NSIC win after lowest scoring weekend of the season. St. Cloud State University took the victory over the Beavers 68-42, followed by a (RV) University of Minnesota, Duluth 78-49 win.

Maddie Schires went 5-for-9 from behind the arc in the game against SCSU, her best of the early season. Along with three free throws, Schires scored 18 points, a career high.

Trinity Yoder and Alyssa Hill combined for 30 points in the loss against Minnesota Duluth. This is Yoder sixth game with double figures and Hill’s third.

The Beavers are averaging 61.6 points per game with Yoder leading the team with 15.6 ppg and eighth in the NSIC

Sam Pogatchnik leads BSU and is fourth in the NSIC in rebounds with 6.9 per game. The Beavers are averaging 38.4 rebounds a game, sixth in the NSIC

Yoder has assisted on 27 Beaver baskets, 3.9 per game, tied for third in the conference.

Bemidji State is 15th in the NSIC in scoring offense and 13th in scoring defense. 

BSU is 16th in field goal percentage (.375) and ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.395). 

Bemidji State is third in the conference with 4.57 blocked shots per game with Schires and Hill leading the team with six.

The Beavers are 14th in turnovers and 15th in assist to turnover ratio.

 
Scouting MSU Moorhead

Head Coach Karla Nelson starts her 23rd season with the Dragons (389-231).

MSUM (4-3, 1-2 NSIC) came away with a win of 57-33 over Minot State University and 75-83 loss to University of Mary in its last two games.

MSUM averaged 68.0 points per game shooting 43.2% from the field and 32.9% from behind the arc.

Senior center Peyton Boom leads the Wolves with 47 rebounds, 16 coming on offensive boards. Boom was named NSIC North Division Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 28.

Scouting Northern State

Head Coach Paula Krueger starts her fifth season with the Wolves (48-62).

NSU (6-3, 1-2 NSIC) came away with back-to-back losses after falling 57-70 to Mary then 66-67 to Minot State last weekend.

NSU averaged 69.2 points per game shooting 41.0% from the field and 28.9% from behind the arc.

Redshirt junior Kailee Oliverson and senior Laurie Rogers led the Wolves in scoring with 107 points on the season. Rogers was named NSIC North Division Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 21.
