Senior Zach Braun (C, Lakeville, Minn.) batted .538 in the first four games of the season to help guide the Bemidji State University baseball team to a 3-1 start to the 2014 season. For his efforts, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference named Braun NSIC Player of the Week, in an announcement by the league office Monday.

The award is the second of Braun’s career, as he was named the conference player of the week May 1, 2012.

Braun went 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate with nine RBIs, five runs scored and three home runs. He posted a 1.231 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. He walked twice and was hit by pitch on three occasions to help him reach 16 total bases in the four games. He also stole two bases. In the field he owned a perfect fielding percentage with eight putouts.

He recorded two multi-hit games, which included a 3-for-3 effort against Mount Marty College March 9. He went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and four runs scored in the season opener versus Malone University March 8.

Under ninth-year head coach Tim Bellew, seven student-athletes have been named NSIC Player of the Week and four have earned the NSIC Pitcher of the Week award.

The Beavers continue its 10-game spring trip with a nine-inning game March 11 versus St. Cloud State University at the stadium of the Keno Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
