The Bemdji State University men’s ice hockey team will extend its 2013-14 campaign beyond the regular season. At 10-19-7 overall with a 10-14-4 mark in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play, the Beavers have earned the No. 8 seed in the 2014 WCHA Playoffs and will travel to regular season champion and No. 1 seed Ferris State University for a best-of-three series March 14-16.
The series versus the Bulldogs will get underway at 6:07 p.m. CT Friday from Robert L. Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Saturday’s opening face-off is also set for 6:07 p.m. CT, with a 4:07 p.m. CT start time set for Sunday’s game, if necessary.
Ferris State won the season series with Bemidji State, 3-1-0, sweeping the Beavers at Ewigleben Nov. 8-9 (5-3 and 5-4 (OT)) before the teams traded wins in Bemidji, Minn. Feb. 14-15.
The Bemidji State-Ferris State series dates back to 1999. FSU holds a 8-5-0 advantage in the rivalry, including a 4-2-0 edge in games played on the Bulldogs’ home ice.

In addition to the Ferris State-Bemidji State series, No. 2 seed Minnesota State University, Mankato will host the No. 7 seed Northern Michigan University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, the No. 3 seed, will host No. 6 seed University of Alaska Anchorage and the No. 4 seed Bowling Green State University will host Northern Michigan University.
The winners of the four best-of-three playoff series will advance to the WCHA Final Five March 21-22 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The playoff berth marks the fourth consecutive WCHA postseason for the Beavers. BSU is 3-5 in the WCHA playoffs, including a 3-2 overtime victory over University of Minnesota Duluth in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Final Five.
