Beaver Fever Friday – Beaver Womens Hockey – Mak Langei

The @BSUBeavers women’s hockey team faces its third consecutive nationally ranked opponent this weekend by traveling to No. 1 University of Wisconsin. The Beavers (1-4-1, 0-2-0 WCHA) will try to upset the top-ranked Badgers (8-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) who boast a perfect 8-0-0 start to the season. BSU and UW will face-off for a two-game, Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with game one Friday, Oct. 20 followed by game two, Saturday. Puck drop for each game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.

The Beavers and Badgers will meet for the 74th and 75th time in the all-time series dating back to 1999. Wisconsin dominates the all-time series record at 65-5-3 but off the five wins by BSU, four of them have come on the road at LaBahn Arena. The Beavers and Badgers last met in Bemidji, Minn., Feb. 3-4, with Wisconsin sweeping the Bemidji State with 6-1 and 4-2 wins. Fourth-year head coach Jim Scanlan is 1-12-0 all-time against the Badgers while Mark Johnson is 54-4-2 in 15 seasons against the Beavers including a current 10-game winning streak.

Bemidji State University women’s hockey freshman Mak Langei earned her first career Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekly award after being named the WCHA Rookie of the Week, Oct. 17.

The East Grand Forks, Minn., native earns the award after posting her first career multi-point game against No. 9 University of Minnesota in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Gophers, Oct. 14. Langei began the night by tallying her first career point and assist on the game’s first goal followed by scoring the game-tying goal and the first of her career in the second period.

Langei tied for the team lead with two points over the weekend and tied for second among freshman in the WCHA.

In addition to Langei, Minnesota’s Sydney Baldwin was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week while Ohio State University’s Kassidy Sauve won Defensive Player of the Week.
