Throwers lead Track and Field to exceptional day at The Opener
The throwers of the Bemidji State University women’s track and field team led the squad to an exceptional day at The Opener Saturday on the campus of College of St. Scholastica. Sophomore thrower Zoe Christensen recorded the second-best mark in the weight throw while finishing with two event wins.
Christensen set a mark of 54-feet-9.75-inches to win the weight throw while senior Gena Baklund and freshman Tierra Doss followed in second and third place, respectively. Baklund set a personal record with a throw of 49-10 and Doss set a personal record with a throw of 48-11.75 during her first event ever with the Beavers. Sophomore throwers Elizabeth Hiltner and Alexis Gehrig also set personal record marks in the weight throw. Christensen also led the throwers in the shot put with a first-place throw of 44-11.75. Doss took second in the shot put with a throw of 42-9.75.
Sophomore Faith Beck took three second-place finishes, setting a personal record in the pole vault with a jump of 10-00 and in the preliminaries and finals of the 60m hurdles. Beck took second in the finals with a time of 9.29.
In total, BSU finished with 11 top-five finishes in their respective events. The Beavers set 15 personal record marks throughout the day.
Bemidji State will take a break from meets until after the Christmas break when the squad returns to host the BSU Intersquad and Alumni Meet on Saturday, Jan. 11 in the Gillett Wellness Recreation Center.
