Bemidji State hosts Wayne State, Augustana in NSIC interdivisional play
The Bemidji State University women’s basketball team will host Wayne State College and Augustana University Dec. 13-14 at BSU Gymnasium for its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference home games. The Beavers open the weekend with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off Friday against the Wildcats before a 3:30 p.m. tip-off Saturday against the Vikings.
Wayne State leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 33-14. Augustana leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 17-2.
Bemidji State was swept during a road weekend with losses of 68-56 to Northern State University and 86-57 to No. 22 Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Beavers enter the weekend 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC.
Sophomore guard Trinity Myer led BSU with 17.5 points per game over the weekend, including a career-high 23 points Friday against Northern State. Myer shot 47.8 percent from the floor and made 12 free throws to go along with eight rebounds and four steals. Freshman center Rachael Heittola scored 11.5 points per game, including 14 off the bench against the Wolves. She went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line and pulled down five rebounds. Four Beavers scored in double-digits against MSUM, including Myer with 12, sophomore forward Claire Wolhowe with 11, and juniors Taylor Bray and Sydney Zerr with 10 points each.
BSU’s past two games were the first time the team has shot worse than its opponents, while MSUM was the first team to shoot at least 50 percent against BSU.
Myer ranks third in the NSIC shooting 52.1 percent from the field, ninth with 14.7 points and 12th with 6.7 rebounds per game. Heittola ranks sixth in the league shooting 83.3 percent (20-24) from the free-throw line.
Bemidji State has shown success defensively while ranking fifth in the conference with 60.6 points allowed per game and third with 36.4 percent shooting from the floor.
