The Bemidji State University men’s basketball squad wraps up the 2019 calendar year with a goal set on splitting the regular-season series against University of Minnesota Crookston. The Beavers and Golden Eagles tip-off at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at BSU Gymnasium in Bemidji, Minn.
The Series
- Bemidji State leads the all-time series against Minnesota Crookston, 49-19.
- The series began Jan. 13, 1922, a 21-15 win by Minnesota Crookston. UMC won seven of the first 10 games of the series. BSU’s longest winning streak against UMC was 13 games from Dec. 6, 2008 until Nov. 29, 2014.
- The Golden Eagles hold the slimmest of leads in the series among the last 11 games, 6-5, dating back to the 2014-15 season.
- UMC won the first game of the season series, 88-72, on Thursday, Nov. 21 in Crookston, Minn.
- Senior guard Ja Morgan led BSU in scoring during the first meeting of the season with 18 points. He added seven assists and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Cody Landwehr and senior forward Logan Bader added 12 points each, including a season-high four 3-pointers from Bader. Junior forward Derek Thompson recorded his fifth career double-double with 10 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Max Bjorklund scored nine points off the bench with a career-high seven rebounds.
- Bemidji State earned its first NSIC weekend sweep since 2014 with a 90-61 win over Wayne State College and a 75-73 win over No. 21 Augustana University. The Beavers enter Saturday 6-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. BSU’s win over AU was the first for the program against a ranked opponent since March 2, 2013 against No. 21 Winona State University.
- Minnesota Crookston took a home split last weekend with a 101-68 loss to No. 21 Augustana and a 92-78 win over Wayne State. The Golden Eagles enter Saturday’s game one spot below the Beavers in the NSIC North Division standings with a 7-4 mark overall and 3-2 record in conference games.
