The Bemidji State women’s hockey team put up one of their best efforts of the season against another top ten ranked team Friday night, despite a long road trip to get to Columbus, Ohio.
The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Beavers battled back in the second to tie up the game on Emily Erickson’s powerplay goal. Freshman blue liner Allie Duellman scored her first career goal wearing the green and white. That goal gave BSU a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. Ohio State scored late in the third to tie up the game 2-2 and send it into overtime.
BSU goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova stopped all six shots on net in the overtime period to send the game into a shootout. Tomcikova would finish the game with 35 saves on the night.
The Buckeyes would win the shootout. Each game in WCHA women’s play is worth 3 points this season. Buckeyes took 2 of the 3 with the shootout win.
BSU’s record in WCHA play is now 4-3-2-1.
