Beavers host No. 6 Bulldogs for only meeting of regular season

For the only time during the 2020-21 regular season, the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team will face No. 6 University of Minnesota Duluth. The Beavers (1-7-2, 1-7-2 WCHA) and Bulldogs (5-3-0, 5-3-0 WCHA) square off for their lone Western Collegiate Hockey Association series of the regular season beginning Friday, Jan. 22 and ending Saturday, Jan. 23. Puck for game one at the Sanford Center is scheduled for 7:37 p.m., Friday followed by game two at 4:07 p.m., Saturday.

Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth will meet for the 105th and 106th meetings in the all-time series history. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series record at 79-21-4 (.779) and are 34-9-1 (.784) when playing in Bemidji. Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth will meet for the only series of the regular season this weekend, and last played each other in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs last season. The Bulldogs defeated the Beavers in three games in a series that saw two overtime games including the second longest game in NCAA Women’s Hockey history that spanned four overtimes and 4 hours and 50 minutes.

The Beavers are 1-4-0 in the past five games against the Bulldogs. Bemidji State last faced Minnesota Duluth in Bemidji on Oct. 18-19, 2019 where the Beavers earned two wins against the Bulldogs.

Bemidji State stands seventh in the WCHA with seven points, a .233 points per game percentage and has posted a 1-7-2 record in both league play and overall. The Beavers are currently on an eight game winless streak (0-6-2) beginning Dec. 17, 2020.

BSU is coming off a series where it went 0-1-1 against St. Cloud State falling to the Huskies 3-1 in game one but battled back in game two to earn a 2-2 tie.

Of the Beavers’ 10 games this season four have gone into overtime, including three against St. Cloud State, while two have been decided in the extra period and two have gone into the shootout. Bemidji State is 2-0 when games go into the shootout.

The last time BSU played Minnesota Duluth was Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs and were led in the series by Reece Hunt who posted four points (3g-1a) in three games while Tina Kampa recorded two assists in the series.
