Senior goaltender Kerigan Dowhy stopped a career-high 46 shots to earn her first shutout of the season and lead the Bemidji State University women’s Hockey team to a 1-0 overtime-victory over No. 6 University of Minnesota Duluth, Friday night.
Senior Mak Langei scored the overtime, game-winning goal at 2:37 of the extra period to earn the 1-0 victory for the Beavers (2-7-2, 2-7-2 WCHA) and end an eight-game winless streak (0-6-2).
Bemidji State was outshot in the game 46-18, but Dowhy didn’t make a mistake in a career performance where she stopped a career-high 46 shots and earned her third career shutout.
After three scoreless periods, Bemidji State prepared for its fifth overtime of the season and used that experience against the sixth-ranked Bulldogs. The Beavers outshot the Bulldogs 6-2 in the overtime period and scored the game-winning goal after Clair DeGeorge won an offensive face-off back to Mak Langei who’s shot deflected over the shoulder of Bulldog netminder, Emma Soderberg.
The Beavers now have 9.5 points in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and trail St. Cloud State University by one point.
Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth will play the series finale this afternoon with puck drop slated for 4:07 p.m. from the Sanford Center.
Tune into our pregame coverage today beginning today at 3:30 p.m. on 94.3 FM The Legends in Bemidji or online at www.beaverradionetwork.com.
