Carrasco sets Beaver Track & Field hammer throw record at Winona State Meet
In her second outdoor meet of the season, junior thrower Zoe Carrasco broke the Bemidji State University outdoor track & field program record in the hammer throw as the team competed in the Battle for the Paddle at Winona State University.
Carrasco brought home two wins in three events competed in, including the hammer throw where she recorded a throw of 53.71 meters (176-feet-2-inches) to break her own program record and hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. She previously set the BSU record in the event March 26 at the Wildcat Outdoor Classic with a throw of 53.18m. Carrasco also won the shot put on Friday with a toss of 13.76m (45-01.75).
Sophomore sprinter Janice Cole also brought home a win, taking first in the 400m dash with a personal record time of 57.65. Bemidji State finished with 21 top-five finishes and 21 personal records set. Emily Curtice won the javelin.
St. Cloud State University won the Battle for the Paddle trophy with 183 team points while Bemidji State finished second with 156 points. Winona State University took third followed by the University of Minnesota Duluth.
This week, the Beavers head to the Dragon Twighlight in Moorhead, and the Holst Invite at Concordia University St. Paul.
