Wendt and Becker lead Beavers to 2-0 win over Minot State
Sara Wendt and Erin Becker each collected a goal and an assist as the Bemidji State University soccer team earned its third victory of the 2021 spring season, 2-0, over Minot State University Sunday.
The Beavers struck first, breaking through the snow with a goal off the foot of Wendt in the 10th minute of play. Maggie Hallock started the scoring play with a ball into the box. Becker headed a pass to Wendt and the junior netted her fourth goal of the season.
Bemidji State finished the half with a 10-2 edge in shots and a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Trailing 1-0 to open the second half, Minot State pressed, out shooting BSU 12-5 with a 3-1 edge in shots on goal, but the Beavers kept MSU at bay forcing shots from distance and Georgiana Harber stood tall making saves on all three shots on goal.
The Beavers added to their lead in the 63rd minute. This time Wendt fed Becker for a tap in.
Alyssa Stumbaugh collected the win for BSU playing the first 45 minutes of play.
Bemidji State returns to Bemidji, Minn. and Chet Anderson Stadium Tuesday when they host St. Cloud State University. The opening kick is set for 6:15 p.m.
