BSU Softball makes final road trip to No. 1 Augustana and Wayne State
The Bemidji State University softball team makes its final road trip of the 2021 season this weekend and will travel to No. 1 Augustana University and Wayne State College for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders.
The Beavers (10-26, 6-16 NSIC) will first face the top-ranked team in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in Augustana (32-4, 20-2 NSIC) beginning Saturday, April 1 at Noon and 2 p.m. BSU will then travel to Wayne, Neb., to face the Wildcats (7-27, 4-18 NSIC) Sunday also at Noon and 2 p.m.
Bemidji State is tied for 11th in the NSIC standings and is looking to make a push for 10th and birth in the NSIC Softball Tournament. The Beavers are currently 3.5 games behind Minot State University who has a 9-11 conference record. Augustana sits atop the NSIC standings with a 20-2 league record and holds a three-game lead over second place while Wayne State is tied for 15th in the conference with a 4-18 record.
The Beavers are led at the plate by sophomore Emmarie Yeager who is batting .309 with 21 hits in 68 at bats. She is second on the team with a .441 slugging percentage and third in on-base percentage (.356). She is followed by senior Lexi Derrick who is batting .261 with 23 hits in 88 at bats and leads the team in slugging percentage (.455), RBI (19) and home runs (4).
Bemidji State’s pitching staff is led by senior Stephi Dullum who has a 6-8 record on the season and has totaled a 3.75 ERA in 87.2 innings while leading the team with 75 strikeouts. She is followed by freshman Stella Dolan who has a 1-2 record in 47.1 innings and has compiled a 3.85 ERA with 54 strikeouts. Redshirt freshman Kyla Damerow has pitched in 57 innnigs this season and is 3-9 with a 6.51 ERA while junior Kaidron McClafferty has pitched in 40 innings and has a 4.90 ERA with 15 strikeouts.
