Bemidji State’s Wendt garners NSIC Player of the Week award
Bemidji State University forward Sara Wendt has been selected for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor for her role in the Beavers season-opening victory at University of North Dakota.
Wendt led BSU to a nonconference victory over the NCAA Division I opponent Friday. She netted the fourth multi-goal match of her career, scoring what would stand as the game-winning goal in the 86th minute before adding another less than three minutes later 89th. The four-point match marked the Arden Hills, Minn. native’s seventh collegiate match with at least three points, while she has six goals and two assists in BSU’s last four matches dating back to last spring.
The award is the seocnd of Wendt’s BSU career. She was also selected for the honor Sept. 23, 2019. It is the first NSIC weekly honor for a member the Beavers’ roster this season.
Wendt was joined for recognition by Upper Iowa University defender, Katrina Kazluzski, who was selected as the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, and Northern State University goalkeeper Alexus Townsend, the league’s goalkeeper of the week.
The victory gives the Beavers a 1-0-0 record. BSU will continue nonconference play at 7 p.m. Friday when the Beavers welcome Michigan Technological University to Chet Anderson Stadium. The Beavers also host Northern Michigan University at 1 p.m. Sunday, both to be broadcast on the Beaver Radio Network.
