BEMIDJI, Minn. (Chet Anderson Stadium) — Senior Ally Smith scored once each half to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Michigan Technological University Friday at Chet Anderson Stadium.
Smith took advantage of a foul called against the Huskies in the goal box in the 26th minute, putting away a Penalty Kick goal to put BSU on the scoreboard 1-0.
Bemidji State’s goalkeeper Alyssa Stumbaugh fought off a strong MTU attack until they finally answered back in the second half at the 57th minute to tie up the game at 1-1.
In the 74th minute, Smith struck again to put BSU up 2-1 in what her head coach said, “was one of the best goals” he’s ever seen in twenty years of DI or DII soccer. The goal was set up by Megan French who found Anna Breffle headed up the right touchline and into the corner where she crossed it perfectly to Smith who blew it past the Huskies goalie.
The Beavers improved to 2-0-0 in the season and welcome Northern Michigan University (2-1-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
