Bemidji State’s Smith garners NSIC Player of the Week award
Bemidji State University forward Ally Smith has been selected for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor for her role in the Beavers 2-0-0 non-conference weekend versus Michigan Technological University and Northern Michigan University.
Smith led BSU to a nonconference victory over Michigan Tech Friday having a hand in four of the Beavers’ five goals. She netted a penalty shot to give the Beavers. 1-0 lead early and posted the game-winning goal in the of the 2-1 victory in the 75th minute. Sunday she added two assists in the Beavers’ 3-2 overtime victory over the Wildcats.
The award is the second of Smith’s BSU career. She was also selected for the honor Sept. 24, 2018. It is the second NSIC weekly honor for a member the Beavers’ roster this season, following recognition for Sara Wendt last week.
Smith was joined for recognition by Concordia University-St. Paul defender, Cayla Renwick who was selected as the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, and Wayne State College goalkeeper Katherine Hageman, the league’s goalkeeper of the week.
Now 3-0-0, the Beavers open NSIC play this weekend when they hit the road for a pair of conference matchups. BSU will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. for a match at Northern State University before a trip to Moorhead, Minn. for a head-to-head matchup with Minnesota State University Moorhead.
