Over the years, Beaver hockey has proven to be a family affair. Moms and dads take their kids to the games, and in turn, those kids take their kids to games. It’s alo a family affair on the ice. Since Ed Johnson convinced the BSU Administration to start a hockey team back in the 1940’s, thirty families have sent multiple players to play for the Green and White.
The list is quite honestly, longer than I thought it would be. A few weeks back, Colleen and Ernie Beitel emailed the Paul Bunyan Net Mailbag, asking this question:
Wondering how many sets of brothers have played for the Beavs?
Well, here’s your answer (based on my research…but when we are dealing with a team that’s played since the ’40’s, some things aren’t in the record books.)

That’s thirty families, with 63 players. Sixteen of those 63 players, were able to play at the same time as a brother. Eight of those families had brothers play at the D1 level.
Playing hockey with your brothers (not related by blood), is special. Playing with those brothers that ARE related by blood…even better!
